198
Interview with
F/O Anthony Hallett DFC, RAFVR
Around the middle of 2005 the "Association" was approached by ITV Meridian News to do an item on the sixtieth anniversary of 198 Squadron RAF's disbandment and a proposed veteran reunion to mark the occasion. Over several days towards the end of August that year interviews were filmed with 198's Tony Hallett and the "Association's" administrator which were edited together in the studio along with archive film footage provided by Pathe which, unfortunately, turned out to be of Hawker Tempests and not Hawker Typhoons.
Subsequently the completed item was broadcast on the 9th September 2005 under the heading of "Finding The Few" during Meridian Television's early evening news programme Meridian Tonight.
This audio extract of Tony is taken from the programme's original soundtrack.
Serving with 198 from January 1944 to November 1944 Tony flew some one hundred operational sorties with the Squadron before leaving as "Tour Expired". Sadly he died during April 2009
